Composer, born in Monroe, Michigan. Educated at the University of Michigan where he studied with Ross Lee Finney. Co-founder of the ONCE group and organized the ONCE Festival from 1961 to 1968. Cacioppo was one of the first composers to explore the aesthetic known as "piece as process" with indeterminate notation, also known as chance music. Outside of museum holdings, no comprehensive survey and inventory of campus artwork had been attempted since 1937. With support from the Michigan Commission on Art in Public Places, 1,076 items were inventoried during 1988-1990.
